Job Description

Individuals experienced with installation, maintaining, testing and repairing High Voltage Equipment and Protective Systems in electrical substations on the PECO Energy System. This position requires adherence to safe work practices and the support of a safe work culture, including ability to follow procedures. The work is performed in both indoor and outdoor field conditions at various substations and equipment locations. Position will require working extended hours, including 24x7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies. Additional duties include the work planning & coordination; and secondary distribution storm restoration. It is required that the individual can advance to Engineering Technician “A” Journey Level and work independently as needed in a high-performance team atmosphere.

 

* POSITION WILL HAVE JOB SITE REPORTING LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT THE 5 COUNTY GREATER PHILADELPHIA AREA. 

 

Primary Duties and Accountabilities:

 

1. Follow all safety rules and procedures along with verbal and written directions from supervision.

2. Perform preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance tasks on transmission-class and distribution-class electrical substation equipment, including troubleshooting of AC/DC control systems and electro-mechanical systems.

3. Perform commissioning tasks for new construction of substation transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, bus work and associated control wiring.

4. Plan, prepare and coordinate work using established processes and a variety of computer software.

5. Respond to call/outs/emergencies/storm duty on a 24 x 7 basis and perform shift work and overtime as needed.

6. Seek out and adopt new innovative technologies.

 

Requirements:

  • Two (2) year Degree/ education in an Electronic/ Electrical discipline and/or equivalent. Equivalent has been defined as
    1.  Post-secondary education in Computer Science / Electronic Engineering or a related field and
    2.  an additional four (4) years of relevant work.
  • Must receive a recommended test result on required EEI pre-employment testing
  • Must be able to demonstrate hands on experience with one (1) of the two (2) of the following
    1. Electromechanical / Microprocessor Protective Relays
    2. Automatic Voltage and SCADA equipment
  • Perform Trip Testing without operating devices beyond the scope of the job.
  • Isolate Protective Relay and SCADA Systems for testing.
  • Valid Driver’s license and ability to meet company driving standards
  • Regular access to an insured personal vehicle
  • Must be able to report to various work locations in the PECO service territory AND must be able to work shifts as needed
  • Knowledge of electrical theory and concepts (e.g. AC/DC electrical theory)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of computers and software applications (e.g. MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, MS Project).
  • Must be able to respond to emergency situations (7 days a week, 24 hours a day).
  • Ability to work at heights to forty (40) feet or more from ladders, aerial man lifts, bucket trucks, scaffolding or on top of transformers; and work in severe weather conditions
  • Ability to pass and maintain requirements for NERC unescorted substation access
  • Ability to pass and maintain a Commercial Driver License (CDL) Certification
  • Maintain Fitness for Duty standards per company guidelines

 

 

 

Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Four (4) year degree in Electronic / Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Six (6) years’ experience with Protective Relaying, SCADA, and Communication Control Systems
  • Experienced with Data equipment such as the Doble DUC, ASE Test Set and Asset Suite.
