This is an entry level position with duties of installing, maintaining, testing and repairing High Voltage Equipment and Protective Systems in electrical substations on the PECO Energy System. This position requires adherence to safe work practices and the support of a safe work culture, including ability to follow procedures. Typically, this person would be in progression and be expected to progress to Engineering Technician A. The ability to work various shifts may be required. The work is performed in both indoor and outdoor field conditions at various substations and equipment locations. The job requires the ability to respond to emergency situations in various roles. Work includes job site reporting across the PECO service territory.  Other specifications of the position are:

1) Work safely using proper work procedures and work practices.

2) Perform maintenance, repair and diagnostic testing on substation equipment. This equipment may include but is not limited to: Protective Relaying, System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Communications Systems, Circuit   Breakers, Power Transformers, Instrument (CTs, VTs, CCVTs) Transformers, Electrical Motors, Capacitors, resistance, power factor, harmonic/frequency, doble, TTR, grounding, short circuit, etc.

3) Interpret test results and assist Engineering with the trending of test data.    

4) Perform work with Substation Maintenance, Testing and Construction crews.

5) Must be able to perform Secondary Storm Restoration duties.

6) Must be able to work from heights using 32 foot extension Ladders, Bucket Trucks and Man Lifts.


Minimum Requirements: 

·         Two (2) year Degree/ education in an Electronic/ Electrical discipline and/or equivalent. Equivalent has been defined as

1.     post-secondary education in Computer Science / Electronic Engineering or a related field and

2.     an additional two (2) years of relevant work.

·         Valid Driver’s license and ability to meet company driving standards

·         Regular access to an insured personal vehicle

·         Must be able to report to various work locations in the PECO service territory AND must be able to work shifts as needed

·         Knowledge of electrical theory and concepts (e.g. AC/DC electrical theory)

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·         Proficient in the use of computers and software applications (e.g. MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, MS Project).

·         Must be able to respond to emergency situations (7 days a week, 24 hours a day).

·         Must receive a recommended test result on required EEI pre-employment testing

·         Must be able to demonstrate hands on mechanical ability while following directions.


·         Four (4) year degree in Electronic / Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology

·         Experience with Protective Relaying, and Communication Control Systems

·         Proficiency with Maintenance Management Systems such as; Asset Suite and Cascade

  • Ability to pass and maintain a Commercial Driver License (CDL) Certification

    * Must be able to work from heights using 40 foot extension Ladders, Bucket Trucks and Man Lifts
